What is therapy like?
Starting out with a new counselor or therapist can be an anxiety-provoking experience, as is the start of any new relationship. It can take time for the therapeutic relationship to feel comfortable and familiar. I am aware of the courage it takes to start with someone new and to begin the work of change. I am here to help in any way with that process and encourage open communication as we begin our collaboration. Feel free to contact me to talk about your questions, concerns, or thoughts about beginning with a new therapist.
Another important piece to understand about counseling is that sometimes it can take several weeks or even a month or more before a person feels significant relief from talking with someone. Please talk with me if you are concerned about the level of distress you are experiencing or when you might expect to feel some relief.
How long are sessions?
Initial sessions are typically 55-60 minutes. We will talk about the reason you are seeking services, your privacy and confidentiality, and fee arrangements. Follow up sessions are typically 50 minutes long.
